Habits, Rituals, Routines

“You’ve gotta have habits, rituals, and routines that serve you”…

I’d go so far to say, habits, rituals, and routines that not only “serve you” but sustain you— in the darkness, through the storm, in the pit that is a valley.

Why? Because as Ed Mylett continued on with the statement above, “when you’re under pressure, you’ll always go back to your habits, rituals, and routines.”

With that in mind, I’d say there’s no debating that what you fall back-on or lean-into, better serve you forward, and through, and out.

Life is hard. For all of us; in different seasons, for unique reasons. And whether we’re ready or not, willing or wanting, life presents soul-baring experiences to each of us, or should I say FOR the betterment of each of us.

The challenge upon their arrival is that we can’t see the “FOR” yet so we become hyper-focused on the here-and-now uncomfortableness of the “soul-baring” versus the lasting beauty that becomes with soul-betterment. So much so we’re often blinded to the simultaneous divine gifts these seasons present; the opportunities that are offered to us, IF we wholly accept them, as proof we are made to persist—onward. As validation, we are made to persevere from the inside—out. Wholeheartedly.

So, I ask you to consider, what habits, rituals, and routines serve you and sustain you; are your light in the darkness, calm through the storm, fortitude in the valley?

The reality is, it’s not important for me to know what serves and sustains you in hardship, what brings you joy and light, where you find your wholehearted self, again and again, . . .

but it is necessary for you to know.

Because the darkness, the storm, the pit weren’t made for us to sit in; they were made for us to brave and better ourselves through.

As I fall back-on and lean-into my own, I hope you consider what these are for you. If you can’t easily identify them, I hope you intentionally begin to build them.
