The Universe has certainly exposed and magnified the disheartened state of society’s (the world’s) emotional well-being. It’s also exponentially heightened and deepened our understanding of the devastating impact that turbulence within our emotional well-being has on our lives — and to the world.

Rich Roll’s most recent “master class” podcast episode is a compilation of what he considers eleven of the best perspectives on mindset for success, overcoming obstacles, embracing pain, and discomfort over the last nine years of conversations; the “crème de la crème” of sorts on personal transformation and “life-altering ideas, perspectives and tools on how to cultivate, embrace, and apply a new and more personally meaningful approach to life.”

I found Mel Robbins section particularly timely when it comes to Mindset and interrupting patterns of negative thoughts (i.e. anxiety, fear, doubt, uncertainty…)

When she finds herself in negative mind-space, she says to herself:

“You have to believe that this moment is preparing you for something amazing that hasn’t happened yet. Keep going.”

In an attempt to interrupt negative thoughts, she found, counting backwards helped.

Over time her research revealed that the ‘5-4-3-2-1’ approach had validity. It became an effective method for regaining control of our minds when negative thoughts (such as anxiety) threaten to take over.

The data revealed that when we count backwards from 5 — 5 4 3 2 1 – “the brain stops thinking, just for a few seconds (because it's concentrating on counting backwards); this hack helps bring us back to the present by relying on our five senses - sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste.”

Robbins stated, “this method has been proven to create a sense of resilience, momentum, and resolve to negative mind-space.”

If you’re still reading, I can’t vouch for this method personally yet, but after learning more about it, I’m certainly open to give it a try.

We learn “nearly everything happens on the inside,” so I’m happy to leverage my tiny platform to bring awareness to methods/tools that have helped others enhance their emotional well-being; knowing someday maybe you or I, will need them too.
