Shoulders made of ivory

 

While listening to one of my regular podcasts, I crossed this, I'll call it, mantra:

"You have shoulders made of ivory." (Marcus Aurelius)

Ryan Holiday went on to narrate the origin story, which happens to come from the life of Marcus Aurelius. 

As Holiday does very well, in this short example, he connects the Golden Age of the Roman Empire and Emperor (Aurelius) to modern day and to each of us.

Holiday paraphrases:

"You have shoulders of ivory. 

You're stronger than you know. 

You've got this. You can do it. 

You have shoulders made of ivory. 

We all do. 

Because we've done the work. 

Because we've done the training. 

Because we've been working up till this moment and now it's here, 

and we're ready to do it."
